People around the world wake up in the morning in mental agony just to make the excruitating discovery that life is no longer normal !! Why ? Because The Corona Virus Disease [COVID-19] Nightmare is still making its wild driveby maneouvres through our streets and our communities seeking and threatening to change our lives forever.

In the midst of The Corona Virus Disease [COVID-19] public health professionals keep on stressing many steps and precautions we can take to prevent the further spread of this fast-acting disease. One of the most frequently recommended solutions is to ensure that we practice “Social Distancing.”

To practice “Social Distancing” we are encouraged to intentionally stay at least six feet away from those around us. This is essential because it limits close contact and greatly decreases the spread of The Corona Virus Disease [COVID-19]. As I was thinking about this I came across this tiny parable:

44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

– [Matthew 13:44]

This tiny parable is packed with essential vitamins for this time !! It shares the importance of “Mental Distancing.” The truth is that the the man in Matthew 13:44 recognized the solid incomparable worth of the treasure he had found in the field. He recognized that in order to purchase the field he needed to do “Mental Distancing.” The man was so impressed with the quality, purity, security and permanence of the kingdom of God that he did a series of things to ensure that he would be in the kingdom of God.

In the midst of his precious discovery and overwhelming joy, the man in Matthew 13:44 reveals to us the two steps he took in his “Mental Distancing” procedure. His first step was to hide the treasure he found. His second step was that he went and sold all that he had and bought the field which contained the treasure he found.

In the same way that the war against the Corona Virus Disease [COVID-19] demands Social Distancing. There is a treasure that every person reading this post can access and find. this treasure is the kingdom of God. This treasure is not supported by the stock market, the economy, the access to N95 masks, or the certainity of employment. This treasure is not defined by Rolls Royce standards – it is a treasure that is not maintained by dashing off to an everyday 8 to 4 or 9 to 5 job.

This treasure and joy found in Matthew 13:44 is not defined by a fearful feverish management of toilet paper, food and other resources as we see the supermarket shelves go empty.

The treasure of Matthew 13:44 challenges you and I to be brave and courageous ! It challenges us to give up all we know, all the solutions the media gives us and trust God fully with our lives. The real joy of the kingdom of God challenges us to mentally distance ourselves from earthly promises made to us by frail humans like ourselves, it challenges us to mentally distance ourselves from stimulus packages injected by governments, and it challenges us to mentally distance ourselves from anything that prevents us from trusting God fully.

Mental Distancing challenges us to turn our backs on all the background noise and distractions that keep us from a close relationship with Jesus Christ. Mental distancing challenges us to intentionally and deliberately rely on Jesus Christ for our deliverance and for our future.

Hiding in our hearts the priceless eterenal gift we have access to, by choosing to make the kingdom of God our goal, is essential. Selling all the other distractions and trinkets that are marketed to us each day is paramount. Buying the field – which means embracing the righteousness that Jesus Christ offers us by putting our faith in Him, is inevitable.

If you take a good look around you and see the tremendous precaution being taken worldwide to avoid the terror of death called Corona Virus Disease you know this issue is more than big !

Taking a good look – you see:

– People lined up in 7 hour lines just to get a morsel of food to put in their mouths,

– People taking drastic measures by using helmets, masks, gloves and raincoats to keep themselves cocooned from the Corona Virus Disease [COVID-19] and its deadly threats

– Even the homeless on some countries “curfewed” off the streets to maintain total lockdown and safety

The Corona Virus Disease [COVID-19] has changed the way we live big time. This Corona Virus Disease [COVID-19] is evil and gives us a rare first hand glimpse of how nasty evil is. Just like sin the Corona Virus Disease [COVID-19] is deadly in its attack and has no regard for life and man’s pursuits for happiness. Just like how we are socially distancing ourselves to avoid being infected. we have a responsibility to mentally and physically distance ourselves from evil.

Sin, evil and unrighteousness are deadly and fatal. They have no respect for life and we must intentionally and deliberately distance ourselves from them. Jesus Christ can help you and I to stay away from evil – all we have to do is believe and trust Him fully and He will give us the power to overcome and stay safe. The Holy Spirit will reveal to us the priceless gift of salvation we have by teaching us how to reverence the sacrifice Jesus Christ has made for the sins of the whole world.

God will do all that is needed for us to understand, appreciate and embrace the immense gift of living a pure and holy life. The invitation is open to you and I right now – we can be safe and stay safe by Mentally and Physically and Socially distancing ourselves from our own human righteousness. Jesus Christ offers us His own rightrighteousness and His own ability to obey all the commandments of God. His power to live right is available to us today !!!

Peter puts it this way:

11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

– (2 Peter 3:11-14 KJV)
