Genesis 7:12 (KJV) – And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
God is a God of Mercy Infinite in Glory. It is because of this mercy why things on planet earth are still kept in check and satan has not totally destroyed everything whether animate or inanimate.
God is an ever present God in the affairs of this world. It is because of this long-suffering mercy which is an integral part of His character that causes Him to be a God of judgment as well. There can be no mercy without judgment. In order to be merciful God has to eventually judge those who repeatedly refuse His gift of mercy extended to them. This is exactly the case of Genesis 7:12.
The antediluvians had ample amounts of God’s mercy extended to them, yet just like us today we ignore this undeserved goodness poured out to us by God and before we know it we have played so dangerously close with fire for so long that mercy runs out and God’s judgment takes over leaving us with different degrees of burns. Some of these burns are irreparable and cost us our souls, cost us eternity, cost us everything.
This does not have to be our case today. God says in His word “Hebrews 3:15 – While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.” (KJV)
