“Unsparrow” Movements

This post goes against the grain of what most of us have learnt while growing up. Worldwide trends have taught us that when the going gets tough – the tough get going. This saying has been translated to mean:

– I must eat junk food to save money to buy more fashionable clothing

– I take every opportunity to do overtime so I have more cash at the end of the month

– I leave my car at home and take the train so I have more time to read newspapers in a cramped up environment

– I stay up all night grilling Google and probing Youtube to find solutions to my problems

– As soon as I get a diagnosis from my doctor I demand emergency surgery just so I can be up and running again in no time without considering my choices carefully

"Unsparrow" movements are those movements I make that indicate to myself and others that I do not know I have my Father in heaven who cares for me and sees every single detail of my life. "Unsparrow" movements bully me into thinking that if I don't backstab a coworker my promotion will never come. "Unsparrow" movements inject fear into my mind that without obsessing over SEO, Google Ads, Reddit and websites like Pinterest my blog will never grow. "Unsparrow" movements take value away from my life and box me into a "robot existence" where I can no longer enjoy meals without electronics. "Unsparrow" movements steal my trust in my Heavenly Father and divert what is rightfully His to my portfolio. Instead of trusting Jesus – I now worship my debit card, I now worship my my ability to solve problems, and I faint when my plans fail.

Matthew 10:28-32

[28]And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

[29]Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

[30]But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

[31]Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

[32]Whosoever therefore shall confess Me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

God is rebuking me today and calling us to value ourselves based on His measurements. We have no reason to fear or worry because God's Word guarantees that He is actively looking out for you and I.
