When we are tempted by the pangs of hunger – help us dear Lord not to call You a liar because the Word of God says: “That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

When we are tempted by those who claim to be wealthy – help us dear Lord not to call You a liar because the Word of God says: Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.

When we are considering the satisfaction of slapping back those who physically or figuratively slap us – help us dear Lord not to call You a liar because the Word of God says: “And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also.”

When we are considering the satisfaction of loving, doing good and lending to those who can give us something in return – help us dear Lord not to call You a liar because the Word of God says: “But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for He is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

When we feel the need to be stingy and selfish – help us dear Lord not to call You a liar because the Word of God says: “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

When we feel the need to create a higher standard of righteousness than Yours – help us dear Lord not to call You a liar because the Word of God says: “The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.

When we think all is lost and You won’t release the miracle we so greatly desire – help us dear Lord not to call You a liar because the Word of God says: “And when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. And He came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.

When we think all is lost and You are not a caring, personal God who sees our everyday struggles – help us dear Lord not to call You a liar because the Word of God says: “Thou gavest Me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed My feet with ointment. Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

When the people around us lie to us and question our faith in You
– help us dear Lord not to call You a liar because the Word of God says: “And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also? And He said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

When the people around us lie to us and tell us we cannot bring forth fruit in a world that is so dark and riddled with hopelessness – help us dear Lord not to call You a liar because the Word of God says: “But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

When we think that the storm of life has gotten out of control and we are going to perish – help us dear Lord not to call You a liar because the Word of God says: “But as they sailed He fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy. And they came to Him, and awoke Him, saying, Master, Master, we perish. Then He arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.

When we think that we are being laughed to scorn because we believe You are omnipotent – help us dear Lord not to call You a liar because the Word of God says: “While He yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying to Him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master. But when Jesus heard it, He answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole. And when He came into the house, He suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden. And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed Him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. And He put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and He commanded to give her meat.

In the words of Dr. J. Edwin Orr:

Cleanse me, O God,
And know my heart today;
Try me, O Savior,
Know my thoughts, I pray.
See if there be
Some wicked way in me;
Cleanse me from every sin
And set me free.

I praise Thee, Lord,
For cleansing me from sin;
Fulfill Thy Word,
And make me pure within.
Fill me with fire
Where once I burned with shame;
Grant my desire
To magnify Thy Name.

Lord, take my life,
And make it wholly Thine;
Fill my poor heart
With Thy great love divine.
Take all my will,
My passion, self and pride;
I now surrender, Lord
In me abide.

O Holy Ghost,
Revival comes from Thee;
Send a revival,
Start the work in me.
Thy Word declares
Thou wilt supply our need;
For blessings now,
O Lord, I humbly plead.
