When you become a parent for the first time your cuddly bundle of joy brings you so much happiness, when he or she is asleep you tiptoe around to make sure everything is just right. You glimpse the occasional smile and bask in the warmth of your new precious jewel! A brand new bright version of yourself – cheerful, innocent, cute and peaceful – a brand new enrichment to your family!
Then if you like to write and journal like I do, you begin to realize that there a few tips that become handy that you must write down. These tips are essential to ensuring that your little one has a pleasant night’s rest. So as a new parent you grab a piece of paper and write:
Suspect tiny insects biting? Put on sleeper
Feeling cold? Put on sleeper
Feeling hot? Fan manually
Damp clothing? Change clothes
Crying? Offer milk or food
Crying? Offer water from fridge
Scratching? Put on baby oil /coconut oil
Fussy? Check pamper is clean and dry
Still fussy? Take for a walk, sing lullaby and pray
James, knowing that life has its ups and downs took the time to jounal his own recommendations for us as we bump into challenges and conquer hurdles everyday. His little piece of paper was quite simple and precise. It helps us when we are happy. It helps us when we are sad. It helps us when we are a bit of both. This is what he wrote:
But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
Tired and Tempted? Do not swear – only speak truth
Facing problems? Pray
Happy? Sing praises to Jesus
Happy and sad? Sing and pray for power
Just like Elijah a man could pray earnestly and see his prayers answered by the God of heaven and earth – I can pray earnestly too and see Jesus answer the prayers I pray!
