The Power of Perception

The Power of Perception, Jesus, Perplexed, Perception, Power, Worry, Control, World, Parents, Butterflies, Fear, Courage, Tempest, Situation

Perception changes a persons outlook on everything including the way they view worrying. One person encounters a red light in traffic and sees that red light as a hindrance, something that is stopping them from getting to that job interview on time. They start to worry about everything possible – what will the interviewers think about his/her lateness? Or will this automatically cost him/her the job before even getting a shot at the interview? And the list goes on and on. Another person encounters a red light in traffic and decides to view that red light as a blessing and an opportunity to praise God rather than worry. They think to themselves this red light might be holding me up now so that later I can avoid an accident that might have happened had I not stopped for those couple seconds at the red light. The first person chooses fear and worry while the second person chooses to praise God.

All of us are like the first person most times in our life. We choose to worry when we encounter challenges in our life. However, we don’t have to be that person, we can choose to be the second person who chose to praise God rather than worry about his/her situation. There is an old phrase that says “why worry when you can pray?” Today I want to add to that “why worry when you can choose to pray and praise? ” You see many times we hold on to the concept that why worry over something you have no control over but should that be our mindset? Should it not be why worry at all whether we can control it or not? I once heard a lady say when we worry we are actually saying that thing we are worrying about is bigger than our God. The ability to control something should not determine whether or not we choose to worry. Our mindset should be “Do not worry Fullstop because God is the same yesterday, today and forever.” He is the same good God he was yesterday, and He will still be good tomorrow. His promises are sure. They are 100% guaranteed:

Deuteronomy 31:8 KJV- And the LORD, He [it is] that doth go before thee; He will be with thee, He will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.

Joshua 1:9 KJV- Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God [is] with thee whithersoever thou goest.

1 Peter 5:7 KJV- Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Psalms 55:22 KJV- Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Isaiah 41:10-13 KJV- Fear thou not; for I [am] with thee: be not dismayed; for I [am] thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Philippians 4:6-7 KJV
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

And these are just a few of His promises that gives us the assurance that He will be with us through the good and the bad. So next time you are faced with a situation that tempts you to worry and fear choose to do instead what the following song says:

When you’re up against a struggle that shatters all your dreams
And your hopes have been cruelly crushed by Satan’s manifested schemes
And you feel the urge within you to submit to earthly fears
Don’t let the faith you’re standing in, seem to disappear

Praise the Lord, He can work through those who praise Him
Praise the Lord, for our God inhabits praise
Praise the Lord, for the chains that seems to bind you
Serve only to remind you that they drop powerless behind you
When you praise Him

Now Satan is a liar and he wants to make us think, that we are paupers
When he knows himself we’re children of the King
So lift up the mighty shield of faith for the battle must be won
We know that Jesus Christ has risen so the work’s already done

Praise the Lord, He can work through those who praise Him
Praise the Lord, for our God inhabits praise
Praise the Lord, for the chains that seems to bind you
Serve only to remind you that they drop powerless behind you
When you praise Him

Praise the Lord, He can work through those who praise Him
Praise the Lord, for our God inhabits praise
Praise the Lord, for the chains that seems to bind you
Serve only to remind you that they drop powerless behind you
When you praise Him

Praise Him, praise Him
When you praise Him
When you praise Him
When you praise the Lord
