It is amazing how many conversations take place in our world on a day to day basis. People are constantly talking about every and anything. Lately I have been really contemplating the many conversations I hear each day around me. Sitting quietly and listening to the various conversations within earshot of myself each day has baffled me and provoked my thought to deep contemplation on what is said.
Let me explain. Some of the conversations I hear are meaningful and full of depth and stimulates the mind towards what I like to call “betterment”. However, a lot of the conversations I hear are superficial and lack real meaningful depth to stimulate any listener’s mind to any state of “betterment”. Most conversations tend to sink the listener’s and the participant’s mind into a state of degeneracy and decay. Let me give you an example if you were to take up the remote control and look at five different television programs at least four of them if not all are trying to push some sort of immorality into the mind of viewers by the script that the actors have to repeat.
Conversations are mostly centered on sex, drugs, drinking and every form of immorality that can be expressed. These lower baser conversations do not stop with TV actors they spread into conversations heard on trains, on buses, in public places, between co-workers, between friends etc etc. These are the conversations that lead people who constantly partake of them into even more sins such as gossip, slander, murder, theft, adultery, fornication and the list is so long I could keep going on until tomorrow. My mind often goes to this thought as I hear these conversations – What does God think of them and what do you do when you have friends or co-workers whose greatest joy is to talk along these sinful lines or constantly attempt to bring every conversation they join along these immoral channels? To me the best thing to safeguard oneself is to stop that co-worker, friend or whoever it is and let them know their conversation is not uplifting and you will not be participating in it. If the person persists then get up and walk away from that conversation. You see a lot of people like to talk about carnal things that debase their listeners and themselves in some way or the other, but conversations that lead along the lines of God, His principles and what he requires of us are quickly rejected and scorned. People don’t like these conversations.
More people need to develop the mindset that they just don’t care who gets offended if the conversations they have to offer are only along the lines of good, because these same people who are offended have no problem with carnal, immoral, debasing conversations. Our world has enough problems and messed up people all because of these low level conversations. Something needs to be done about it and it starts with me and you refusing to be a contributer or by-listener to such conversations. God tells us what he expects each of our conversations to be like each time we open our mouths. He tells us in Deuteronomy 6:6-7 ‘These commandments which I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
Let us all strive to talk on these things and thus help ourselves and our fellow human beings to maintain pure thoughts, motives and actions. Let Philippians 4:8 be our guide this week and always ‘Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, if there be any praise, think on theses things.’ If we think on these things our conversations will automatically be pure and the conversations we tolerate will also be pure. Remember this week that whatever your mind ingests your mouth will egest!
