“Death itself shall die!”

Image

Every now and then there is a verse within a song that is extremely powerful and its message is so profound, it causes one to stop and reflect and digest its power. The song this line comes from was written by Isaacs Watts and composed by Abraham D. Merrill.  The verse that is so extremely powerful is this:

His own soft hand shall wipe the tears
From every weeping eye;
And pains, and groans, and griefs, and fears,
And death itself shall die!
And death itself shall die,
And death itself shall die;
And pains, and groans, and griefs, and fears,
And death itself shall die.

It’s no secret that “Death itself shall die!” when Jesus returns to this earth. I am praising God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit today on just that one line because I know that the hurt, instability, broken-heartedness and pain that this sour-enemy of the human race (death) has caused everyone will once and for all be demolished and it will be replaced with happiness, stability, permanence and joy. Right below I have the entire song for your enjoyment:

Lo What a Glorious Sight Appears

1
Lo, what a glorious sight appears
To our believing eyes!
The earth and seas are passed away
And the old rolling skies.
And the old rolling skies,
And the old rolling skies;
The earth and seas are passed away,
And the old rolling skies.

Refrain
O that will be joyful, joyful, joyful!
O that will be joyful
When we meet to part no more!
When we meet to part no more
On Canaan’s happy shore;
‘Tis there we’ll meet at Jesus’ feet,
When we meet to part no more!

2
Attending angels shout for joy
And the bright armies sing-
Mortals! Behold the sacred seat
Of your descending King.
Of your descending King,
Of your descending King;
Mortals! Behold the sacred seat
Of your descending King.

3
His own soft hand shall wipe the tears
From every weeping eye;
And pains, and groans, and griefs, and fears,
And death itself shall die!
And death itself shall die,
And death itself shall die;
And pains, and groans, and griefs, and fears,
And death itself shall die.

4
How long, dear Savior! Oh, how long
Shall this bright hour delay?
Fly swifter round, ye wheels of time!
And bring the welcome day.
And bring the welcome day,
And bring the welcome day;
Fly swifter round, ye wheels of time!
And bring the welcome day.

In the words of John found in Revelation 21 – He describes the beauty that awaits every human being who chooses the gift of eternal life:

The New Heaven and Earth

21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will [a]dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them[b], 4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.”

– New American Standard Bible (NASB)

I can’t help but praise Jesus and rejoice today because –  “Death itself shall die!”
